The present theoretical-review article discusses significance of the English language in professional communication and some issues related to English language teaching in health care-oriented study programmes with an emphasis on pragmatic aspects of the teaching process in terms of communication and epistemology. The article is based on a long-term teaching experience and on literature search performed in PubMed, ScienceDirect and Medvik databases.

Lung transplantation is fully implemented clinical method, which saves and improves quality of life of patients in their final stage of lung disease. In the Czech Republic is the lung transplantation performed from 1997. During this period was the program of lung transplantation always evolving and changing. In this report is written world history of lung transplantation as well as evolution of lung transplantation in Czech Republic. In the end it’s explained for which patients is the lung transplantation dedicated, and described difficult process of protocolar examinations before listing into the waiting list.

The needs of parents caring for an ill child are just as important as the needs of their chronically ill child. Once a chronic illness is diagnosed, the parents and the child must adapt to the new situation. The main objective of the paper was to assess the needs of the family of a paediatric cardiology patient. Spine and spinal cord injuries are a serious problem, it is the most common cause of death or disability of people up to 50 years of age. There are up to 400 new cases in the Czech Republic annually and half of which are permanent wheelchair users. Benign esophageal stenoses lead to dysphagic problems that prevent patients from eating, the patients lose weight, suffer from malnutrition, and their quality of life is significantly affected. We have several treatment options in clinical practice. The first one is pharmacological treatment with the application of corticosteroids, the second is the non-pharmacological treatment of esophageal dilatation, stent placement, incision or self-assisted dilatation at home. The paper deals with the theoretical definition of leisure time and the possibility of its use in healthcare facilities. Leisure time is an important determinant of quality of life. It affects positively all components of health. The use of leisure time in healthcare facilities is for the time being associated primarily with children, but not with other age groups. The aim of the paper is to describe the leisure time and associated areas as a supportive treatment.
