The needs of parents caring for an ill child are just as important as the needs of their chronically ill child. Once a chronic illness is diagnosed, the parents and the child must adapt to the new situation. The main objective of the paper was to assess the needs of the family of a paediatric cardiology patient. The research group consisted of 107 parents of children treated at the cardiology outpatient clinic. Data were collected using the Family Needs Assessment questionnaire (Bailey et al., 2004). The results of the research survey suggest that the parents mostly mentioned needs in the area of support and information. The total average score of the Family Needs Assessment questionnaire (Bailey et al., 2004) was 50 ± 17.45 points out of the possible score range of 35–104 points. No statistically significant differences were identified in the saturation of the parents’ needs depending on the age of their child, duration or type of the child’s cardiovascular disease.
