IMPROVING THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS IN FIRST AID AS AN INITIAL STEP IN RIME PREVENTION
- 1 Slezská univerzita, Fakulta veřejných politik v Opavě, Ústav nelékařských zdravotnických studií
Background: The vast majority of crimes committed by children and adolescents take place in or around schools. Given the rising crime rate and the increasing number of fatalities and injuries among young people, first aid education in schools is essential to increase children's
and adolescents' knowledge and skills in providing assistance in crisis situations and preventing the destructive consequences of injuries and fatalities.
Aim: To determine the level of knowledge of primary and secondary school students in Opava about first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Method: The survey was conducted after the theoretical and practical block of teaching in the form of a quantitative survey using a questionnaire survey. A non-standardized questionnaire of own construction was used. The research population consisted of pupils of upper primary schools and students of secondary schools in Opava.
Results and discussion: When processing the results of the questionnaires, we found that the current theoretical knowledge of the students is sufficient, but it is necessary to implement new resuscitation procedures and first aid into the subconscious of pupils and students on a regular
basis and in cooperation with other professionals, teachers, educators and health professionals.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, theoretical-practical curricula with educational objectives related to first aid education can be effectively used to integrate first aid into school curricula.
Keywords: first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, pupils' knowledge, students' knowledge
