BAPT (BREASTFEEDING ATTRITION PREDICTION TOOL) AND ITS TRANSCULTURAL MODIFICATIONS
- 1 Ústav ošetřovatelství, Fakulta zdravotnických věd, Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci
Background: Breastfeeding is anoptimum method of nourishing ababy anddemonstrably has health benefits in the short and long term for both the baby and the mother. The global trend of exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months of the baby’s age is lower than 40%. Evaluation tools for the assessment of breastfeeding make it possible to identify women at risk of early cessation of breastfeeding.
Objective: The publication was aimed at creating an overview of published studies that describe transcultural adaptation and validation of the BAPT tool.
Methods: A search of relevant studies was made in scientific databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, ProQuest, Wiley Online Library, and ReseachGate). The search was conducted on the basis of specified key words, using Boolean operators, from April 2022 to August 2023, with a time limit from 1989. The analytical review was created based on the PRISMA protocol.
Results: A total of 109 studies were found, and 7 studies were used for final processing. The inclusion criteria were as follows: empiric studies included in the reviewed journal, quantitative research with clearly specified methodology, and availability of full text in English.
Conclusions: Seven studies were identified, the primary goal of which was to describe the process of transcultural adaptation and validation of the BAPT tool in various countries. The BAPT has demonstrated a good predictive ability to identify women at risk of early cessation of breastfeeding. The overview produced can be of help in the selection of a suitable tool for the assessment of breastfeeding in a clinical environment, or for research.
