ON THE ETYMOLOGY AND HISTORY OF CZECH AND ENGLISH NURSING TERMINOLOGIES

The present  theoretical-review  article  discusses  etymology  and  conceptual  history  of selected terms in Czech and English nursing discourse (patient, client, health, care, nursing, nurse). The aim of the article is to elucidate original word meanings of the relevant expressions
in the discipline and their changes. The text is based on the author´s linguistic and teaching experience, a long tradition of etymological lexicography in both languages and a literature search performed in the PubMed, ScienceDirect and Medvik databases.
