Background: Pregnancy rates are steadily increasing as women age. Advanced maternal age is defined as a mother's age of 35 years or more at the time of childbirth. The change in the role of women in society is playing a role in the postponement of motherhood to an older age, with
contemporary women wanting to be educated, wanting to achieve high professional positions and, last but not least, wanting to be financially independent. However, at the expense of the above-mentioned goals, pregnancy and motherhood are being pushed back to a woman's older age. As a woman gets older, she also develops diseases of civilisation (hypertension, overweight, obesity, diabetes mellitus, etc.), which in themselves pose a risk to the pregnancy itself.

Aim: To investigate the health consequences of advanced age of women on pregnancy and newborns.

Methods: quantitative questionnaire method (non-standardized  questionnaire)
Results: The survey revealed that women postponed their motherhood to an advanced age for sociological, psychological, medical and economic reasons. It was also confirmed that pregnancy at an advanced age of a woman carries health risks for both the woman herself and the newborn. Among the maternal complications, these were mainly spontaneous abortion, gestational diabetes mellitus, ectopic pregnancy, multiple gestation and gestational hypertension. In children, advanced maternal age is associated with congenital developmental defects, low or high birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, intensive care unit admissions and reduced Apgar scores.

Conclusion: Based on the data, it can be argued that pregnancies of women at older, advanced ages pose a health risk to both the mother and the newborn. Having a child   at an advanced age is still common in the current population of women in the developed world. In the context of health risks, it is important to educate women about this issue to eliminate the risks.
