SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION IN MALES TREATED FOR HYPERTENSION
- 1 Interní klinika, Fakultní nemocnice Ostrava
Sexual dysfunction is a very common complication of cardiovascular disease. The most common male sexual dysfunction is erectile dysfunction. The causes of erectile dysfunction are psychogenic, organic or mixed. Hypertension and its treatment can affect the presence of sexual dysfunction that affects the quality of life. The aim of the research was to determine the incidence of sexual dysfunctions in men with treatment for arterial hypertension.
Methodology and sample: The Arizona’s range of sexual functions – ASEX standardized scale was used in the research. The survey consisted of 118 men, 72 (61 %) respondents who were treated with hypertension and 46 (39 %) healthy respondents.
Results: In men with treated hypertension, a significant correlation was found between achieving orgasm and sex activity compared to the control group. Especially in the treatment by beta-blockers and diuretics.
Conclusion: Hypertensive disease in men may affect sexual problems and the presence of sexual dysfunctions may indicate a silent form of hypertension. An important role may be played by a nurse who, during a nursing history, can raise these issues and, in collaboration with a doctor and a patient, suggest a solution.
