Background: The contribution of an overview nature deals with transcultural nursing. It deals with the topic of the Roma minority and Roma attitudes towards health and illness. It points to an issue that is closely linked culturally, namely prevention in the area of Roma girls and women. It is based on socio-cultural specifics in relation to health and illness in relation to the treatment and nursing process.
Objective: Summarizing the research knowledge about Roma attitudes towards health and illness in connection with the health promotion of Roma women and finding the starting points for the work of general nurses.
Methods: The search was carried out in scientific databases – EBSCO, Pubmed, ProQuest, Medvik, MEDLINE, Google Scholar. A total of 21 studies were found. The search and sorting process reflected the PRISMA recommendations.
Results: For correct and culturally adapted care, it is necessary to know the specifics of individual minorities, and among the important factors that greatly influence the attitudes of Roma towards health and illness is the low level of education, but mainly the perception of health and illness by the Roma minority itself. Roma do not see health as an important factor that affects their lives.
Discussion: Family takes priority over health, followed by securing finances. The fact that they do not care much about their health is one of the reasons why they do not seek professional help, or seek it only when the disease progresses and causes them problems.
Conclusions: Culture plays a large role in the perception of health and illness. Attitudes towards health and illness are not only reflected in the area of the child and adult population, but also very intensively influence prevention in the area of Roma girls and women.
Keywords: Roma, health, illness, attitudes, social integration
