Metodika: Studie měla charakter prospektivní observační studie a zahrnovala celkem 29 pacientek.

SCALP COOLING EFFICACY IN PREVENTING CHEMOTHERAPY-INDUCED ALOPECIA IN BREAST CANCER PATIENTS: A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
Background: Hair loss associated with cytotoxic treatment is a common adverse effect that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life. One preventive option is scalp cooling, which may help reduce the risk of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of scalp cooling therapy in breast cancer patients undergoing cytotoxic treatment.
Methodology: This prospective observational study included a total of 29 patients. Anthracycline-based therapy was administered in 75,9% of cases. The degree of alopecia was assessed using the Dean scale, with alopecia ≤ 50% considered a successful outcome.
Results and discussion: The findings indicate that scalp cooling may reduce the risk of alopecia. A total of 62% of patients experienced < 25% hair thinning. However, no statistically significant association was found between the type of chemotherapy and the degree of hair loss. The results may be influenced by the small sample size. Studies with larger cohorts report lower effectiveness of scalp cooling during anthracycline treatment, whereas success rates exceeding 50% have been described for taxane-based regimens.
Conclusion: Scalp cooling represents a potentially effective method for preventing chemotherapy-induced alopecia in breast cancer patients. However, studies with larger patient populations are needed to more accurately assess its efficacy.
